I would rather be poor and the happiest person on earth. If I was the happiest person on earth I would already be the richest. The finest and richest gift anyone could have is happiness. True riches are the simple things in life , like family, friends and a sense of community and inner peace. These things have no monetary value, therefore without them no one is truely rich.

The equation you have suggested does not happen always. It is taken for granted the rich are miserable and the poor are happy. Several cases it is vice-versa. Hence one should strive to be happy whether rich or poor. The basic requirement for that is contentment. A rich with all his wealth may not be contended and a poor too worry always comparing himself. On the other hand the rich can be contended and happy and so also the poor. Now the hypothetical question becomes null and void.

If you could be the happiest person on Earth, then it wouldn't matter if you were poor or rich.
But if it came down to choosing between being poor and miserable and being rich and miserable, who wouldn't pick rich?

I am poor and happy, but bills stress me out. If I could be rich(or at least able to pay my bills) with my kids and husband (which is the part that makes me happy when poor) then i would be the happiest person on earth.

We make our own happiness and money never has anything to do with that. I'd definitely choose "poor and the happiest person on earth." If you're happy, all things are possible.

I would much rather be poor and happy without a doubt.
If you are happy you may not be money rich but you are rich in so many other ways in life. Money can buy you alot of things but the one thing money cant buy is hapiness. What good is having alot of stuff if you are miserable and cant fully enjoy it?

Most rich folk aren't happy. They got all that money and they go through wives and husbands like water, because they ain't happy, just look at all the movie stars and singers and people like that, all that money and can't find a lick of happiness! I'd rather be poor and be happy.
