mis·take ( P ) Pronunciation Key (m-stk)
n.
An error or fault resulting from defective judgment, deficient knowledge, or carelessness.
A misconception or misunderstanding.
I know it is the definition , but I generally dont classify a mishap resulting from carelessness as a mistake. If it could have been preventable by something known or understood , but overlooked because of rushing or just not caring- I don't treat that the same way I would treat an occurance that happened because someone was given misinformation or they were just not knowledgeable to make proper judgement , for example, the difference between a 2 yr old throwing a ball in the house and breaking something (no proper judgement- a mistake) and a 10 year old throwing a ball in the house and breaking something (knows better- carelessness, in my book anyway- not a mistake)

In common terms, a mistake is an action with undesirable consequences. Sometimes we will call something a mistake because we don't like the consequences, however in reality it could still have been the best action to take under the circumstances.
The dictionary better defines it as:
An error or fault resulting from defective judgment, deficient knowledge, or carelessness OR A misconception or misunderstanding.
Most mistakes are made from deficient knowledge with carelessness a close second.

Mistake is a decision that has gone wrong. But it also depends what is the parameter against which it has wrong. Because if a decision taken is not in accordance with the framework, then it goes wrong. Else it is all fine. Hope this helps.

Mistake - something that you did wrong. Either you reliase it is wrong or later only u reliase it. Sometimes mistakes make you regret as it is part of a decision that you need to make in life. Ppl always says "LEARN FROM MISKATES"...means u did something wrong and in future do not make the same wrong doing (mistakes).

Something you did wrong that you wish you hadn't. We make our biggest mistakes when we speak out loud. So the old saying, Think before you speak carry's a lot of weight.

a mistake can be something you regret doing, like doing something you parents told you not to do or not going to college when you graduate high school (normally this is regreted later in life.)
