In the surrounding foothills, though no less expensive a place to live than IN TOWN.
That said however, the Las Vegas law enforcement agencies are some of the best in the country.

The northwest section and southwest section of Las Vegas are nice.... I live in "centennial hills" in the NW and am in a very nice neighborhood. (summerlin and henderson are expensive)

Henderson & Summerlin are nice - but kind of expensive. Anywhere on the SouthEastern or SouthWestern sides of the city are better than the Northern parts. (IMO!!)

I would say in Summerlin, if you can afford it. This is where more of the high-end homes are, and tighter security. I lived in the northwest and didn't have much in the way of problems.

i would say north-west of town or so like on chieftain street that is were my grandma lives it is really nice if you do live on chieftain your not far from LONE MOUNTAIN PARK, LONE MOUNTAIN, DEAN ALLEN ELEMENTRY, LEVITT MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND CRESENT PARK, and CENTENIAL HIGH SCHOOL
