Can't believe that noone said anything about the intake silencer. It's on the intake tube, it's kindof a large round muffler looking thing. Remove it and put in a straight pipe, then modify your exhaust. You'll increase your HP by about 20. Very simple modification. Good luck.

Don’t bother messing about chipping it or buying a crappy K&N filter etc etc the overall gain isn't worth it and what you pay for the chips is just plain daft and filters wouldn’t stop a brick getting into the engine. In my view the best to gain extra power is to fit a different engine and seen as its a ford the only way to go would be a cosworth unit from either a sierra or an escort that would open up a whole new can of worms in terms of tune-ability 400bhp + is quite easily achievable with a bag full of money to throw at it.

The cheapest, major first upgrade most people do to their car for a quick Horsepower boost is install a new muffler. Stock mufflers are one of the biggest culprits in robbing your car of horsepower. You can easily at minimum add 15-25 HP to your focus (maybe more), as well as get a slight more decent sound out of it.
