He and I decided since we both were at fault that we would fix our own vehicles with out going through our insurance company!

Did you admit to his insurance company that you were involved in the accident? If so, you're screwed. If you claim to not know what this guy is talking about, there's nothing he can do to prove you hit him. There's no police report, so he's stupid for going back and trying to fix it now.

Unfortunately, you admitted fault. You should never admit fault, ever. There is no police record, that is in your favor, but you need to tell the insurance company straight out this was a no fault accident, you are paying your side and you expect him to pay his side. Contact your insurance company and ask them what to do next. Tell them you don't want to file a claim because it was a no fault accident and they will tell you what to do next. Don't let his insurance company intimidate you. They will try. They may even send it to a collections agency. Obviously, the guy who collided with you is telling his insurance company it was your fault. Stick to your story! And, next time...get a police report. Lesson learned the hard way. Good luck.

Learn a valuable lesson from this - always call the police in the even of an accident.
You'll have to pay out of pocket, or involve the insurance company. Your car insurance will cover the accident, or his uninsured/underinsured.

Even you don't want to file insurance, that will be your loss. The accident happened without witness, if you don't have full insurance, you will have to pay other party regardless. Their insurance company does not want to spend money, and they want your insurance company pay for it as well your insurance company want their insurance company pay it. It is like an exchange. However, if you don't want your insurance pay for it, that will be out of your pocket. You don't benefit at it!

From what I can tell, you'll either have to involve YOUR insurance company or pay your fiance. If the accident wasn't reported (bad mistake) both parties will have to pay for their own damages.

Never never talk to their insurance company. They will just use it all against you. Call your insurance and tell them what happened and have them talk to his insurance. You may still not have to file a claim, they may just be able to chase them away for you.

If he has involved his insurance company, your only choice is to involve yours or pay him directly.
