If you learn to float on your back, you will have the confidence to swim. Start in water that is shallow enough for you to touch the bottom. Have a friend you trust assist you. Think of your lungs as an inflatable device. Take in a deep breath and hold it as you lean back, and arch your back and pick up your feet. Have your friend place one hand under your shoulder, and one hand under your waist. When you breathe you will start to sink a little, relax, and fill your lungs with air and you will see that you float.Gradually have your helper take their hands away, and you are relaxed and floating by yourself. Soon you will be doing the backstroke all over the place. If you are swimming and get tired, or paniced, just roll onto your back and float.I've taught many kids and adults to love swimming this way. You can do it.

Whether you're in a pool or in an open water, go to a part where you can keep your head up exposed on the air. There, try sinking yourself until you can keep the pressure under the water and then take a break to breath on the air again. Also, while under the water, try to loosen and practice your hands and feet movement. If you feel you're not yet confortable with it, try getting anyone of your pals to take a watch over you until you completely conquer your fear or anxiety. Good luck. I know you can do it. I used to have a hydrophobia too.

You have to practice. You start with standing in the water and then floating and standing up again. The idea is that your body gets used to "sinking" in that you learn how to float and recover from floating by standing up. Then you work up to floating and swimming a bit and standing up. And so on. You get so that you feel comfortable floating and keeping yourself afloat, knowing that you can always just stand up. And you practice keeping yourself afloat for longer and longer times. Eventually, you will achieve the confidence that you can always keep yourself afloat even if the water is too deep to stand up.

how do people ride two wheel bikeds without falliing over? the idea is the same in swimming...
you can stay upright by keeping moving and keeping your balance in the middle. You just need to practice.
Swimming is a similar process. you just need to practice in a safe zone to start, and then aas you get better, venture a little further out

just practice. :D or try swimming first in a shallow pool (where the water goes up to your neck) then practice floating. when you're confident enough...try to swim in the deeper part of the pool. :D
