You never know anybody's story until YOU actually live it. For some strippers its doing what they have to do for whatever reason. For other strippers, it's fast easy money having fun and doing something they like. I think the people who go to watch them though are stupid because all they are, are teases looking to get your money. But either way, you can't judge them or the people who watch them.

What do I think of them? I haven't any qualms about what they do. As a matter of fact I've been fortunate to meet a person who did this for a livelihood and found her to be one of the most intelligent and well mannered person I've met in ages.
I think that the job has received a poor reputation and that may be from persons past experiences. I find that it is more of a profession that requires costume purchasing, gym memberships and believe it or not, these items are tax deductible under the profession of an entertainer.
As a side note there isn't any shame in it. If you possess a superb figure then why not flaunt it and make it work for you. Quite frankly, the person I refer to has a better sense of moral decency and values then most of the people I either meet and definitely see here.

Hey, the answers so far pretty much cover most of the stereotypes and attitudes.

I know LOTS of strippers - and in fact you need to think about your terminology. "Exotic dancers" are women who dance clothed and may remove much of their clothing but do not become totally nude. Strippers do appear completely nude.

Like any other group, the community of dancers - their preferred word - is made up of smart, stupid, decent, disgusting, attractive, ugly, healthy, diseased, honest and moral, dishonest and immoral, people. The business tends to attract women who often have no other means of earning a living, but not always. It also tends to create conditions that are very difficult, and the atmosphere of the industry unfortunately promotes drug and alcohol abuse - but, again, not universally.

Fewer than half of the dancers I know engage in sex in connection with their work. Many dancers are so disgusted by the behavior of the men they encounter that off the job they don't like sex at all, or at least sex with men.

All dancers are in the business of fantasy. They aree presenting and selling an illusion. Many men who visit strip clubs think they can easily date the dancers or pay them for sex - and they generally discover that is not the case. And, I might add, often men who think poorly of the dancers as stupid, immoral, negligible whores are usually the meanest, nastiest customers who demand the most and treat the women abusively.

I like dancers, for the most part. The ones who are drunks, unreliable, airheads, drug abusers, or just plain nasty skanks don't get much attention from me. But I respond to such women in the general population in the same way. No need to be mean or nasty to people you dislike; just avoid their company. The dancers I know well and who are friends are single moms, married moms, single women with or without boyfriends or partners, hard working, determined, engaging, attractive (mostly), reliable, skeptical (comes with the business), kind-hearted, and often very thoughtful citizens. I haven't as many neighbors who meet those standards!

depends on what one it is. they are just like normal people, they're all different. think of it as a job, not a lifestyle. there are some with which it is a lifestyle though. those ones are bad. i know quite a few and would say that some are decent sweet girls like the girl next door but need money for various reasons (school, single mom, can't find another job), and some are the stereotypical drugged out gold-digging sluts. stay away from those ones

I think it's sad that this profession exists....not because of the entertainers themselves, but the fact that there's a need for this industry at all.I don't think the strippers themselves are disgusting(tho some can be) it's the men(and women) who pay to watch....ergh....

They are just making a living like everyone else, I think if it goes into prostitution then that may be crossing a line. It is no different then buying Playboy or looking at porn on the net. Unless this is being viewed by my wife and then I am against all explotation of women.
