My buddy was working his shift as a manager at a nation wide auto parts store last night, he was held up at gun point... He is ok, got clocked over the head. He feared more for his new born daughter (at home) more than himself... Seeing as though Ive never had a gun in my back, Im woundering if anyone has been, or knows someone that has been held up... As his buddy how can I help him, to deal with any stress or anxiety that may come about from this?

The best thing to do is to be there for him and let him talk. If he is having a hard time handling it, counseling would help. There will be a period of 'what if' and 'if only'. I'm glad that he wasn't hurt.
The only time that I had a gun pulled on me was his last, and that
was hard to work through.

I used to Bartend at local pubs/bars in Las Vegas,,, Been held up 4 different times in 9 years!!! I used to go to work and set a $1000 dollars in the cooler just in case I was held-up again, That way it would be worth my while, Never been shot, Never been hit. Had a guy stand on my neck once. But Id offer anything they wanted and a Cocktail to go, He'll be fine,,, The post held up trauma etc,,, There is no SAFE job in this world. Just keep chipping away!!!

I used to own a video game arcade and got robbed by a 14 year-old with a gun. He demanded money and grabbed what was on top in the cash box (I deliberately kept mostly ones in there). He was so nervous that he dropped most of it, but I was more afraid than he and as he headed for the door I grabbed my gun from under the desk just in case he came back. He was later caught and his weapon turned out to be a very realistic pellet gun. His mother was acting very bored with the whole court process and when I had the opportunity to speak I spoke directly to her and let her know that for less than 30 dollars he son could have gotten shot! It still makes me ill to think of what would have happened had he seen a car pull up as he was leaving and ducked back in the door. I'd have assumed that his gun was as real as mine and taken my best shot.

Sorry to be so long winded, but I wanted to explain my stance. Obviously I don't recommend that your friend arm himself with a gun, but I had to do something to make myself feel a little safer. I asked the police to drive by every so often and they had me remove the blinds and curtains on my office so they could see inside. If I were him and it was legal to do so I'd have some of that bounty hunter bear spray under the counter!

Stress the "glad to be alive" aspect of the experience. I can guarantee life and loved ones seem more precious. Above all it might help him to talk about it. Just be there for him, even if he doesn't want to talk about it.

The best thing you can do is comfort him and maybe spend a little more time with him to show him that he means alot to you. If he gets a bit jumpy and worried it might happen again you could stop in at his work every now and then just to check up on him. Im sure he will appreciate the thought. Its great to hear that you want to stand by him in this. You sound like a genuine friend!!
I hope he is ok!!

As his buddy, you know best how to handle any post-traumatic stresses or anxieties he may have. Then as soon as you both are ready, enroll in a concealed carry class and start retaking your lives back.

It wouldn't hurt for your friend to be evaluated by a psychologist or psychiatrist for PTSD. It can be a crippling disorder that results from a traumatic experience such as that.

I had one to my head and the trigger pulled, it was a dud but not for the one that pulled it.
