Grasp the concept of ironic or even sarcastic questions. I answered a question which quite obviously was put up to take the pi**. At the time of writing it has 55 answers the vast majority of which cannot see the joke. WHY!!

Ironic or sarcastic humour tends to be subtle.Some people need to be hit over the head(so to speak) with humour to get it.

Irony and sarcasm are largely dependent on tone of voice and body language in the delivery for full effect and understanding. Quite often, with the typed word, the intent or attitude with which you are writing is not clearly conveyed.

if you expected to offend then you shouldn't be surprised that you did. I put a why does soccer suck compared to American football question in the world cup section and people really got mad. Started bashing America and everything. I guess they don't know you or your intent so take it on face value. maybe they just want to be angry. Take out thier aggression where they can.

Sometimes I answer rhetorical or sarcastic questions for the points, or to whine about misuse of answers!

*shrugs* Too many people don't get sarcasm..it's quite worrying really. The amount of times I've typed an answer only to not use it because I doubt people will get it.

My gran used to say something that went like that:

"You must take others seriously if you want them to take you seriously, and seriously means seriously! Don't take them seriously enough when they are and you'll only insult yourself, take them too seriously when they're not and they'll insult you"

I reckon she would have made a great university lecturer!!!
