I never tried Avent, but Dr. Browns are great... They may be harder to clean ( a few extra pieces) but they are good because they prevent your baby from swallowing air, which prevents gas, which means less crying (hopefully). I used them with the pump but not for storage... For Storage I would use the bags. You can put bags in the freezer and keep it fresh for months!
If I were you I wouldn't buy too many of one thing... Some babies only go for certain nipples... You wouldn't want you to buy 15 Dr. Brown's Bottles to only find out that your baby won't take them...

I used a medela pump and found that the wide neck bottles like Avent didn't attach to it. So, I expressed into the bottle that came with the medela pump and then poured it into the Avent bottle as my lo got on much better with the wide neck bottles.
A friend of mine used Dr Browns bottles and swore by them. My midwife suggested that if you are continuing to breast feed, find a teat that is a similar shape to your nipple! For this reason, I used Avent bottles with nuk teats.
Good luck!

I didnt pump but i did use the Avent bottles. I did NOT like them at all. They would leak sometimes if the lid wasnt put on just right. It became a huge nussiance being that the formula would pour all over my daughter. I ended up switching to the Playtex VentAir. Prefered those much more.

My baby only took a few bottles but she hated the avent ones. She would only take Dr Browns. I think it's because the nipple is so much softer than the avent.

dont get doctor browns, they have alot of inner workings, and babies love to shove things under a couch where a frazzled mommy wont find it til a month later. you cant properly clean the little nozzle in those bottles, though theyre a great idea. i use the playtex bottles with disposable liners, and i like them because you can squeeze the air out of them. playtex also makes a pump adapter kit so you can use the liners with your pump, put a lid on them for freezing, and nipple on them for feeding. (the adapters work with both wide mouth and traditional mouth pumps.) when i was doing my research everyone said the less the milk comes in contact with, the less chance of infection or contamination. i love this little set, the only thing my mile touches is one liner and a lid. congrats on your upcoming baby!

Avent bottles are nice, and no....I never used the Medela bottles as they were too small.
DO NOT USE the Medela bags. They suck. For all three babies, I used the Gerber bags. While they may seem expensive, they are very reliable!!

I tried both and both work fine. However, the Dr. Brown's bottles are larger and "fatter" though and so you'll need more storage room and they sometimes don't fit in the standard diaper bag slots. They are also more expensive and harder to clean.
Avents are just the right size, are less expensive, and just plain easier to find in stores.
