Okay . . . Ed fought with Envy, Envy killed Ed, Ed's soul went through the gate to the "real" world and basically possessed the Ed of that world. At the same time of Al trying to save Ed with himself and the Philosopher's Stone, Ed got killed by flaming debris of a shot down dirigible. Ed's soul came back to the Alchemist world and Ed came back to life in the Alchemist world, saw Al was gone and sacrificed himself to bring Al back to life completely, and that sent him body and soul to the "real" world . . . and that is where we meet him in the movie.
Man, that's complicated to write . . . *shrugs*

None of the Elrics Die, Ed goes through the gate to our world, Al stayswith Winry and Rose in their world.
In our workld Ed's metal arm is useless and he meets up with their father. At the end of the last episode they vow to find a way to get back together.
Be on the lookout for the Full Metal Alchemist Movie, (the Real end to the series) Ed and Al actually try to meet back up on the same deminsion

He was killed but he passed thru the gate and is living there now. The movie is really good but i cant spill cuz u said u can add some spoilers about the ending only soooo ~_~ ull just have to wait and see what happens lol ^.^

Well he did die in the alchemist world, but then got sent through the gate to his other body in Munich, Germany. You`ll have to see the movie that comes out this fall.

no just his physical body on that world but he lives in a parallel world at the other end of the gate
