On your keyboard, the numlock key has 2 functions.
1. It sends a signal via the data cable to the cpu that the user wishes to use the number pad for numerical purposes and the cpu will then adjust settings in the computer to accomodate this.
2. It also lights up a small bulb on the keyboardright above it to idicate to the user that the numlock feature is on. (propbably connected to the bulb by wire. power supplied via the data cable)
