it's a way for them to deal with their emotional pain...by inflicting physical pain on themselves. contrary to what most believe, it isn't always a ploy for attention...and it isn't all about that person. however, it IS selfish. b/c the person isn't thinking about how it will affect others. i know b/c i'm a recovering cutter.

It could be a number of reasons but the most common thing I heard is that when people hurt themselves, they "feel better" from their problems or depression. Some see it as a game - testing their limit or how much pain they can take... things like that. Of course it's not good because their way of dealing with things may be keeping them okay now but in the long run, they're ruining their lives more than the original problem they had...

they badly need 2 talk 2 someone and they need professional help...my friend used 2 do that because he could not take his anger on others so he took it on himself by cutting himself..badly at times...those persons do not need 2 b left alone as they may b prone 2 suicidal intentions

I think that they are lacking in self esteem, crying out for help & thats how they do it to get attention

It's a disease that needs treatment immediately. You wouldn't deny a diabetic insulin, would you? The illness may be mental, but it needs treatment just as any physical one does. Get yourself, or your friend help.

i understand it. went through it in teen years.

Its a release and anger or other emotions that are negative when you are unable to release them in natural ways like talking.

Its stupid and i'm glad i dont anymore.

when things go out of your control, you can do nothing & feel frustrated, so this is result of that frustration 4 few people.

i used to when i was 14 thru 15 so i understand why people do it. i got tired of hiding the scars so i stopped thanks to my friends.
