I know what you're saying. If you check the websites for every US Embassy, it clearly states that evacuations from the country in question are paid by the tourist/American in that country, the government will not pay the fare. I suspect this is the government's way of showing everyone they're capable of giving out warm fuzzies in the time of need. Why on earth would you want to be in any of those countries in the first place?

Why did we have to pay for bringing that stupid kid from Florida back from the Middle East? His parents claim they didn't know he went, yet he bought a plane ticket (where did he get the money) and was in contact with their friends over there? Make him pay for the millions he cost the military.

As for the ones in Lebanon, at least they were there for legitimate purposes.

because we the taxpayers are americans, and they are americans. when is there going to be a time that people can just travel again, and not be caught up in terrorism? some people were there to work, some to travel, and some for reasons of diplomacy. let's get them home safely, hope that terrorism can be ended, and get on with the bussiness of living freely again, without the threat of terrorism hanging over our heads. by the way, aren't you an "american"? would you like like being left there if you were say, a student?

Well, if you were stuck over there what would you hope would happen. It's not like people on welfare are vacationing in Lebanon. And no matter how much money you have, I don't think you could escape on your own.
Have some compassion, man.

because it's the politically correct thing to do. The State Dept. issued 4 warnings to Americans NOT to go to Lebanon and these a$$holes chose to go anyway. Let them get their sorry butts home themselves.

Had there been no trouble and they returned home they would of course have had to pay their airfare - why our govt caved in on a perfectly reasonable policy and is giving these vacationers a free ride beats the hell out of me...
Im thinking of a cruise to Aruba - do you think if I billed the govt. for the return half of the cruise they'd reinburse me? If they didnt I'd like to know why I'm treated so unequally...

Why wouldn't you be? You the Tax payer have funded the Israeli army for decades!

It's probably fair that the US government helps out its citizens that are directly affected by the US funding to Israel.

I'd rather see my tax dollars spent to save our own citizens than to fund war. These are Americans in a foreign land that need help.

Because we can. I don't think it makes it right BUT we can handle the finances. I just would like to less complaining and more appreciation for the Marines and everyone involved including US the taxpayers.
