A friend of mine has the hook up where you plug the iPod into the cig. lighter then turn your radio to a specific channel. This set-up/method works pretty good. The sound quality will depend upon the setup of the system in your car. If you have a good system in your car, this method will be very useful. Her setup also came with a remote so she didn't have to touch her iPod once after she plugged it in.

The type of FM transmitter you get for this set-up will depend on which type of iPod you have.

Something that plugs into the dock connector is better than something that uses the headphone jack.

Something that can use line in (either your stereo has a regular line in jack, or an adapter that can go into a CD changer connector in the back) will give the cleanest sound.

A cassette adapter is second best.

Use a radio adapter as a last resort.

Do you mean for listening to the ipod through your speakers? I personally use the Monster Cable which plugs into your cigarette lighter and transmits the radio frequency to your stereo. I have great success with it. It comes with several pre-set stations that you can tune to.
