You say "I am trying to utilize company resources in a positve way by allocating my internet usage towards the betterment of this department through the act of interaction of fellow individuals who can answer some of the questions of issues we have using their expertise in those areas of knowledge."

After their head stops spinning from taking in all of those buzzwords, you should be off the hook.

It's the same as being caught playing video games or just plain surfing the net. You're being paid to work, not "goof off."

If you're on there for work-related reasons, your boss might be OK with that. If not, then you could be in trouble and warned not to do it again.

FYI, some companies block certain websites or prevent employees from going outside the corporate intranet as a way to keep them focused on their jobs.

Be the most productive person you can be for the time your being paid for.
If your doing something other than what your being paid for then then your really just stealing money out of the pocket of the owner.
Unless your on straight commission and the owner doesn't care as long as your productive.
Its called work ethics if your being paid by the hour or salary be all you can be and play on your time.
What ever you do just be honest!

Instead of trying to make up an excuse, just be honest.

Plead for mercy, and hope that the boss doesn't fire you. You should't be doing this on his time.
