If you set out to fail you could either fail at failing by succeeding, or succeeding at failing by failing. So, no matter what happens, if failing is your goal then you automatically do both, fail and succeed at the same time. It is an endless cycle, for example, if you succeeded then it means you failed at failing and so you failed which means you succeeded, which means you failed, which means you succeeded, and so on. Same with the opposite situation.

well, if i set out to fail and succeeded in doing so, than i have succeeded in failing. But if i succeeded in where i was to fail then i have failed. Now the question becomes did i succeed in failing or did i fail to succeed in failing?

your question makes no sense.. "If you set out to fail, but you succeed" would mean that I have succeeded in what i set out to do (which is fail), so i would have succeeded since i failed, right? there is no argument.

Well, both. You failed at trying to fail. But...you succeeded at the actual thing you were doing.

If you set out to fail, then by failing to fail you succeeded.

Succeeded. It doesn't matter how you set out, what matters is the outcome. If you set out to succeed but fail, you've failed.

You Failed to Fail... but those cancel each other out, so you succeeded in the end.

You have done nothing at all in your own mind for you're back at where you started really while each person that knows what you have done will have their own perspective on whether you failed or succeeded.
