Rabbits and eggs are both fertility symbols. Easter is really a co-opting of a pagan fertility celebration. It seems like a natural: Birth-rebirth of Jesus Christ.

Don't shoot the messenger!!! He's just carrying those suckers around for all the deadbeat chicken mothers out there. If he didn't rescue them, those chicks would end up on someone's plate scrambled. At least he is giving them an opprotunity to get accessorized first!
