'The Go Between' by J.R.R Hartley. I studied this text for my English Language 'A' Level. It is about a boy who goes to stay with a school aquaintance at his house over the Summer. The novel is saturated with this boy's feelings of inadequacy and, seen from his perspective, is distorted by his little life experience and general understanding as he is exposed to the grown ups there, the realisation that he is of a lower class, his own naivity which leads him in to being used by two lovers as a 'go between' (hence the title). The novel has a whole ream of events that are inflated by the character into something quite palpable and vivid. I can think of no other novel that better exposes a character's mind.

A tell-tale heart by Edgar Allan Poe its a short story. its perfect for how murder effects on ur conscious. the play Dr.Faustus by christopher marlowe is good too
but the perfect is the novel Mrs.Dalloway by virginia woold it tells u how the inner psyche of the mind works in a flux.

Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. Has love, murder, death, incest, pretty much everything, and the characterisation is brilliant. You get to know Cathy and Heathcliff intimately but also periferal characters like Catherine and Edgar.

Try Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes....it is even written in a first-person, diary-style narrative. Show his feelings as he changes due to an operation and due to discovering love. Is also on film as Charely.

"The Old Man and The Sea" by Ernest Hemingway is a classic and should be top of your list.

It should be available in any local library.

Once you begin reading you won't want to put it down and that is not a pun!

You are in for a real experience.
