Any other old farts out there who remember the top 40 am radio of the '60s and '70s? If so, try the Mark Simone Oldies show, on WABC radio and the internet:

If you don't remember, let me tell you what I liked about it. Way back before Sirius, XM, iTunes, video music TV or even FM radio, all there was were one or two AM music stations in each town. Today's music is so fragmented, but these stations played EVERYTHING - rock, pop, soul, vocal groups, folk, country. They were the only outlet so they had to please everybody. That's why so many people remember it so fondly. Plus we grew up with it - the songs, the DJs, the jingles, the contests - maybe it seems corny now, but hey we liked it.

I don't say it's for everyone, but sometimes it's fun to go back.

So, old folks - tell me your memories. Young folks - tell us what good newer music we may be missing, that we should try. I don't dislike new music, I just don't know it.

In my area I listen to an oldies station exclusively.

Don't have sirius & other stations here play all country or all hip hop. I do like some country & can quite easily listen to it, but hip hop is out of the question.

Here's some memories for ya....

Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman
early Elvis before drugs
some Rick Nelson
definitely Neil Diamond's early stuff
always CCR, Eagles, any John Fogerty
John Denver's calm insight
some BTO

I grew up listening to top 40's radio stations and they played everything from old time rock n roll (Ricky Nelson's Travelin Man) to disco (Night Fever, etc) and of course all the great bands of the era -- The Eagles, Chicago, The Rollig Stones, The Beatles, etc.
