Not only USA but most western countries are going to become decadent. I fear that their successful model has already reached the highest peak and now the route is all downhill!

Very naive question.

The USA is the strongest country in the world. Not in terms of military only. Economy for instance. Why does the whole world want to know how the New York Stock Exchange does every day or the NASDAQ? The world revolves around the USA economy. As the USA economy does well, the rest of the world reflects that. As people in the USA make more money, more items from other countries are imported, people travel, etc. which means more and more growth for other countries.

If the USA is in such decay, why do so many people want to study here? work here? live here (illegally as well)?

America is mostly a country of the unbelievably stupid, naive and ignorant.

However, it has become rich and powerful because of a land rich in natural resources (taken with much bloodshed from the natives) and because of a small minority of brilliant scientists and intellectuals who are held in contempt by the majority who take advantage of their achievements.

America has been so provably wrong on so many issues it is absurd and they are too stupid to see it.

1. They now talk about solving the problems of the Middle East after voting in a president who initially said the rest of the world didn't matter to Americans (and wanted to pull out of the Palestinian/Israeli peace process- the Palestinian situation being a prime recruiting sergeant for terrorists)

2. They ignored the rest of the world who warned that they should take stock and plan before invading Iraq (and many of these supported eventual military action.

3. They said they don't believe in Global Warming (the fact that they would ignore their own Academy of Science shows how anti-intellectual they are).

Of course many want to become American-its like the kid at school who toadies to the school bully hoping for protection

If you guys keep saying "yes" to your cowboy in the White House and feeding your minds with Paris Hilton, then your society is a decadent one. But if your hold on to what we admire in you (mostly your knack at questioning everything, celebrating heressy and your up until recently uncompromising desire to be free) then you can say that you guys are well and alive.

There are elements of decadence, but not to the extent that the Roman Empire was decadent

I would say that increased standard of living instead of decadent.

This increased standard has implications in underdeveloped countries. Because of USA, Europe, Japan - other countries get our tech benefits. Africa has a chance for teleservices now like never before because of cell phones and satellites. Populations locked in tyrannical countries now have a shot a getting outside information whereas before people smuggled info in thru books and their brains.

I know a lot of our expressions seem decadent - but we are in a place of global knowledge like none before in history.
