my wife answered a yahoo want ad for a puppy, the end result of multiple emails was,he convinced her to wire money to africa for a plane ticket to send her the dog-I never got the puppy. She answered another yahoo add for a different puppy, guess what-same scam different names. I wired money to someone in africa, against my better judgement thru walmart, and he then said the ticket would be more than he originally thought, thats when I figured out we had been scammed for $350. I wonder if theres a way to stop these people?

Check this site for scams PRIOR to paying anyone:

http://ftc.gov/bcp/menu-internet.htm

and you can report them there as well...

Always report any contact info you may have gleaned (although they typically use "disposable" (free) email accounts...

Since you haven't specified which Country you live in; I'm assuming it's the US of A.

The FBI has a Cyber Crimes Divn Which is really the best!

You can file your online complaint at the two links I've given you below.

Pity is that this being an offshore matter, and the African Police being what they are, .... .....!

If you'd paid by Credit Card as most such transations are done, you can call your Bank and have them reverse the payment on grounds of fraud.

Well, at the US Govt. is doing something very concrete about this rising criminal activity on the Net. Interpol is also, doing a very good job. You'll also be happy to know that a lot of third world countries have also taken up drives to stamp out such things, like for example in India, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. In the Middle East Muslim Countries, like Saudi Arabia, you would have your arm cut off for this.

But, unfortunately, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and most of the African countries like the notorious Nigeria, are just not doing anything about it; because of their anti-American attitudes.

But then, not to worry, the FBI always gets its man!

All the best.

If you do not check a company before entering into a transaction, you could lose your money, time and credibility. Some widely used resources are the Better Business Bureau (www.bbb.org) and the national fraud center (www.fraud.org) these days, you can easily find out more about a company using the internet in a few minutes. From a company's website, you can details about its ownership, how old the company really is and feedback from the company's customers.

As mentioned before, report to your e-mail provider. Also Save all documents and report to FBI Internet Unit.

I regret there is very little they can do because the offender is in another country and unless its a Major Crime they have Millions of reports like this.

I don't want to reprimand you, but WOW! I just can't believe what people will fall for.
