My husband had just come back from a military year overseas, and we were out camping with our son to be alone for awhile. When we came down off the mountain and had radio reception again, all the stations were playing Elvis songs, but it was an hour before we could find out why. Turns out that I was busy creating my daughter when he died!

I was 15 then, and was living in Torrance, Calif. It was around 4 in the afternoon and I had just gotten back from Catalina Island. It had rained all day and I had to sit in it all the way back, 26 mi., because there wasn't any room inside. My mom's boyfriend had left to go to Taco Bell to get something for dinner when the phone rang. It was my older sister asking if we had seen the news. My mom told her no we had just gotten back, why? She told us that Elvis had died. I was shocked and deeply saddened but I didn't cry, guys don't do that. You know the song "It Never Rains In Southern California"? Well it did that day, now I know why. But it wasn't rain, it was tears, the sky was crying.

Let's see, he died in the early 80's, right? I would have been about four years old. I guess I never actually heard that Elvis died until years after it happened.

Guess what? I'm in an Elvis tribute band. I was never a big Elvis fan growing up. Earlier this year, my Dad was offered a spot as the guitarist in an Elvis tribute band. He found out that they had no bass player, and suggested me. I tried out and got the gig. I've had to learn about 30 Elvis songs. I've gained tremendous respect for the man since then. I have a blog on blogger, where I've posted pictures of our gigs. Check it out, if you have a minute.

On holiday, traveling by Colorado in a Winnebago. We had stopped in Cripple Creek, and my son got here working into the shop we've been in, yelling "Did you pay attention who died?" In my ask your self I reported, "Who, the President?" He reported, "No, greater advantageous than that! it particularly is Elvis."

Actually I was driving to visit a friend when I heard it. My ex-husband loved Elvis and shared his birthday. I was wishing the death had been my ex-husband instead.
