but you're already taking prenatal vitamins, avoiding all the bad stuff (caffeine, artificial sweeteners, mercury rich fish, alcohol, drugs, exc.), eating healthy, and lightly exercising? I have an appt. set up already, I'm just curious.

*317bossyaussie* - Thanks for the info and I got my prenatal vitamins at GNC. I'm not sure if the doctor's are more potient, but these seem to have all the necessary things.

If you've been trying to get pregnant and the moment has finally come, there is no rush. Just chill and be happy, they'll want to see you only when the progress has gotten far enough to start monitoring it- about 6-8 weeks along.
It's the folks who are not planning on getting pregnant who usually feel the rush, because a) they want a blood test to confirm if they really are and b) so they can get started asap on the prenatal care they haven't been having already.

Usually there is no real rush; however, it's been documented that the women that get prenatal care earlier in the pregnancy seem to have healthier pregnancies, less complications, and a healthier baby.
If you've not gone to the doc yet, how can you be taking prenatal vitamins? I thought those were by prescription only.
Anyway, seems like you are doing all of the right things. There are many woman out there that wouldn't know to do all of these things and that's why they need to get in to see the doc to find out all about these things.
By having early prenatal care, you and the baby can be monitored and hopefully catch any problems that may arise before they get too bad.
Best of luck, and keep up the good work!

You need to make an appt to see an OB doctor once you find out you are pregnant because it is hard to get in because most of them are so booked. It is very important to have prenatal care as well as take your prenatal vitamins. As soon as I found out I was pregnant with all my kids, I made my appts ASAP to get the care both me and kids need rather than sitting around waiting for someone to tell me to do it and know that I have a doctor to call with all my questions and concerns.

I have always believed that the quicker you see your Doctor, and get the appropriate blood test, as well as get an internal exam, the better. because some women develop Gestational Diabetes when they are pregnant, plus possible other complications, and the quicker you get started with proper medical care, the better. I'm not trying to scare you, or anything, but it is recommended that early prenatal care is always best. You are however, doing all the right things so far. Oh! and congratulations!

An ultrasound is not a bad idea, so they can make sure your pregnancy is not ectopic. That can kill you if undetected.
There may also be some local environmental risks your doctor could warn you about, like exposure to cat litter boxes, government mosquito spraying, or excessive fluoride in the drinking water.

Personally, I'm not so sure either. I think the less medical intervention, the better. It's good to have someone who knows the signs and symtoms of problems watching over you. I'm having a midwife and a home birth this time around, I am really looking forward to it. I still get blood tests, and blood-pressure checks, and I am comfortable knowing that she has experience.

make sure the baby is healthy, just because your avoiding all the bad stuff doesn't mean the babys fine you need to make an appointment because for some reason this time of year the ob/gyn doctors are always way overbooked so it is important

You should do it as soon as possible. My sister had a test that was positive and she thought she was pregnant. It turns out she had a huge sist (tumor) on one of her ovaries. It can also be an ectopic pregnancy. You should make sure everything is 100%.

To get that first ultrasound, hear that heartbeat, find out your exact due date. I was SO happy I rushed to the doc. Sounds like you're doing the right things though.
