Where do republicans get off calling others unpatriotic? Example when Saxby Chambliss (R-Georgia) was running for senate agenst incumabnt Max Cleland (D-Georgia) Chambliss had the nerve to run campaine ads compairing Cleland and Osama Bin Laden side by side, and calling Clealand unpatriotic, Now Saxby Chambliss has never served in the military a day in his life in fact he got a differment becuse of a bad knee, a bad knee that has remarkably gotten better with time since it was good enough for him to serve as a firefighter. And as for the unpatriotic Cleland, well he IS a vienam war veteren and a triple amputee! He had his legs and right arm blown off by a gernade. Wow thats really gutsy, a chikenhawk calling a decorated triple amputee war vet unpatriotic! And lets not forget John Murtha (D-Pa) He also is a decorated war vet, and some Republican chicken hawk had the nerve to call him unpatriotic on the senate floor, just because he opposed the war in Iraq! Im sick of this our brave veterans being called unpatriotic just because they don’t support the war. This is nothing more than a control tactic! A great A#@ BAG once said.....”The people can always be brought to the bidding of there leaders, that’s easy. All you have to do is tell them their under attack and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism”....Reich Marshall Hermann Goering......And a great man once said ” Dissent is the highest form of patriotism”—Thomas Jefferson

There is a difference between patriotic dissent and unpatriotic dissent. If you disagree with policy decisions, that's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, if you attack somebody (like the President) in a time of war with lies, strictly for the purpose of scaring people into voting for you, that is unpatriotic. Attacks like that divide the country, demoralize our troops, and encourage our enemies. Propogating lies about the President attacking Iraq just for oil, or saying he lied about the pre-war intelligence, is unpatriotic, especially for members of Congress that know better.

..ROFLMAO... I just read the answer by "tough_as_hell". I can't believe somebody can be that deluded. It is truly amazing that somebody can be that ignorant in the "information age".

They've flopped on energy, environment, education, jobs and the biggest broken promise was Bush said he would never use our troops for nation building, etc. The chant of "USA" had the ring of jingoistic and egocentric bigotry. Please, let's choose brains, fiscal restraint, and thoughtfulness in November. Our children deserve a brighter future and the world deserves a better partner than Bush and the Republicans are able to provide.
Despite protests that he is defending our rights, his regime has done all it can to oppose the "bill of rights" and the rest of the U.S. constitution. (Read: Nat Hentoff's book, "The War on the Bill of Rights."

2. He has done all he can do to destroy the environment. Can the world stand four more years of the Bush administration's attacks on clean water, clean air, the forests and the climate?

3. He has attempted to impose his form of religious thinking on all of us and the rest of the world. In this he is no better than the Taliban or the other Muslim fundamentalists.

4. He is fast moving us into an impossible situation regarding the budget and taxes. It is my belief that George W. thinks the world is going to come to an early end (which might be a self fulfilling prophesy) and his rich friends might as well enjoy it while they can.

5. His attitude on minority rights, particularly women's rights, prisoners rights and workers rights.

6. He has lied us into a war we don't belong in. Had President Clinton done what Bush has done he would have been read out of office in no time. Clinton's lies, as bad as they were, did not result in the death of over 1,000 Americans and numerous Iraqis.

Don't invoke Thomas Jefferson. You are clueless as to what the real meaning of patriotism is, as well as what the founding fathers intended. Read up for a change and do your research before spouting off with your ignorance. The founding fathers were Christians and believed God had a very big place in this country. By quoting them and completely missing the point you insult the beliefs and intentions of those great men.

Well said! I also remember a Senator named McGovern being drummed out of office for saying that it was unpatriotic for congressmen to wrap themselves in the flag and stay the course in Vietnam especially if it wasn't them who had to go fight the war
