Nowadays, people just dislike him because of the Scientology crap. However, many men have disliked him since the Top Gun days because their wives or girlfriends had a crush on Tom Cruise. Personally, I just consider him a great actor and I really couldn't care less about his personal life.

It's because he's gone completely mental. He's been talking a lot about Scientology, which is completely insane and full of freaks and loonies. This country is still predominantly Christian (around 80%) and talking about the "thetans" on your skin and being from an alien planet just doesn't fly. He goes on Oprah and jumps on her couch like an idiot, screaming how much he loves Katie Holmes. As Kathy Griffin said, "Even the gays don't want him anymore."

You'll see him phase out action stuff like MI:3 and move to drama if he wants to keep his career moving forward. Oh, and he'll have to shut his yap about his cult for a while to get folks back, and even then some of his fans are lost forever.

I think we're having a hard time respecting Tom because:

1. He got divorced after such a long marriage to whatshername
2. He was for the most part a private person before Kate
3. He's too old to be acting like such a jackass - (Oprah incident)
4. He's very publicly judgmental (Brooke Shield, Matt Lauer)
5. He changed - we expected him to be the same respectful, mature person and he ruined it.

Most people don't hate him - he's a great actor. Theyy feel sorry for him that scientology has taken over his life and made him a little nutty. I guess it's hard to keep your head on straight when you're that famous and have that much money.

He criticized Brooke Shields publicly about her problems with post partum depression, stating that she shouldn't be taking anti-depressants. He blasted Matt Lauer during a television interview regarding the same topic, stating that diet and exercise can cure post partum depression. Then there was the whole jumping up on the couch episode on tv. He's coming off as a know-it-all jerk, telling other people who to live their lifes. He needs to stick to acting.

Because hes been weird since he joined scientology. He tells people that he'll eat Katie's placenta, he jumps on Oprah's couch like a ****** and such things of such matters.

I don't mind him personally, but I think most people got fed up with his many talk show appearances. His giddy behavior when he went on and on about Kate, and goofy acts on shows like Oprah made most people want to puke after a while. I think if he had kept a lower profile he would have been okay.

not just because he joined that joke of a religion, but because how he has acted since he joined it. jumping up and down everywhere, that smug stupid grin...dating, having a child with a very young woman..the things he says (eating a placenta, bashing on brook shields for taking pills) and crap like that..he's just gone crazy! since he has joined scientology he is tyring to shove it down peoples throats! if you didnt notice it in war of the worlds, go look again.
