Assault does water down the seriousness of what it actually is, yes.

I can see that 'god' would offend you if you feel like it's been smothering you your whole life by its idea and its followers. I used to be the same way.

The word 'offend' is not the same as hurt, it describes a whole mix of feelings besides just hurt, like anger, confusion, embarassment.

Rascist words are offending. I don't think rascism is ignorant I think it's just hateful.

Joyriding isn't always drugged up teenagers running over people and dogs. Sometimes it's just fun to go for a ride when you've been in the house all day or you need to think about stuff.

Yes, believe somehow makes ignorance okay. Family, a word that should mean a group of strongly connected people who love each other more than anything, has now become an excuse and a word for hatred and discrimination.

Could your taking offense to the word poser be a sign that you are a poser yourself?
Just kidding...

I find it very offending when people throw around words when they don't even know what they mean. If they're just a dumb f*ck, and no one pays attention to them, then it doesn't matter. But when they have power over politics, science, law...then it becomes so frustrating I could scream.

Bastard is a terrible word. People sort of sling it around casually, and they probably don't stop to think that there are actually bastards hanging around them. To be a bastard is probably a very, very bad feeling and sensitive issue.

"Retarded"
Whenever I hear people misuse this word I want to kill them and bury their body in a shallow grave out in the desert.

joyriding, it makes it sound as though when drugged up teenagers steal cars and race around causing damage and even fatalities, that it's fun somehow, something to laugh at.
Update after reading askers incorrect definition of the word. It is recognised as a criminal offence. I quite often work with teenagers convicted of theft of a vehicle and subsequent 'joyriding' sprees. it is not a term used to describe a trip out in a car after a hard day. Research the word and see for yourself

The only word that really offends me is "n****r". (It's the word that's used toward black people; you can see I don't like to type it.) Actually, I can't really say that word "offends" me, since I'm not black, but it really makes me angry when I hear ignorant people throwing around that word when they obviously don't know the magnitude of what they're saying. I can't think of too many other words that have as ugly a history as that word. I wish it would just disappear from the English language altogether.
There's other racist words that are really bad too, but the "n-word" is among the worst.

The word assault offends me because it replaces the word rape. I think that assault implys that rape is not so serious.

"believe"
When most people say "believe" it means they aren't THINKING and will refuse to THINK no matter how much evidence proves their belief foolish.
Also "family" which is just another word for censorship.
