Means that you have something set wrong in the BIOS of the computer (CMOS is the battery protected memory that holds the BIOS settings).

When you start your computer, on the very first screen there will usually be a keystroke (F2 for Dells, F10 for Compaq, Del, Alt+s, etc) listed that gets you into the computer's BIOS settings. That is where you set things like what kind of hard drive you have, do you have a floppy or cd, etc.

Go into the BIOS and WRITE DOWN all the current settings, so that you can restore them as needed. Check the error you are getting again to see if it gives you any indication what BIOS settings is wrong. Then attempt to find that setting and change it.

If it is an older computer, it is also possible that the battery that normally keeps the CMOS memory working as gone bad. So every time you turn the computer off, it is losing all of the CMOS settings. If that is the case, you will need a pro to look at the PC.
