ok, let me give you a detailed look at the history instead of biased bull:

In the late 1800's some jews (and also non-jews) founded a political movement called zionism. Zionism called for a "national home for the jewish people" (in palestine of course). Several meetings took place and it was established that to do something like this the zionists would need the support of several powerful nations (England USA, france bla bla bla).

The jews at that time were some of the wealthiest families in europe, through their vast resources they convinced England to support the taking of palestine (which was under muslim ottoman control at the time) from the arabs and establishing in that land the state of israel ("balfour declaration", search for it). Naturally, the arabs did not like this and many battles were fought bla bla bla.

Israel totally hammered the arab nations around it (with help from the west of course ;)). The jewish influence in the west, as mentioned before was enormous (mainly through business, people like donald trump etc) which was and still is a primary reason for the US and English backing of Israel.

Hope that helps :)

cheers

Isreal is an evil experiment. The jewish poplulation in the area was only about 5% in 1900. Even before the WWII, a mass migration to the area was initiated to flood the area with people from around the world. With Britain's help they displaced the residents of Palistine and were granted statehood by the United Nations in 1948

Isreal launched pre-emptive wars in 1967 and 1972. They work hard to settle occupied territories and expand their base of operations.

Settling occupied territories is against the Geneva Convention

The root cause of the fighting (aside from any religious reasons) is that Israel was created after WW II by the Western nations out of Palestine. The land that is Israel now is 100% stolen from the Arab nations.

Also, shortly after the creation of Israel the Arab nations tried to take it back in what was later called the 7 (i have also heard 6) Days War. In this war Israel took more land from its neighbors.

Up until recently the conflict had devolved into random terrorist acts between the nations there, and was near peace before Sharon was elected Prime Minister.

we back them b/c they are a democracy. Democracy is stability. It is the only country like that in the middle east. the problem is not land it is religion. The Israelis have allowed the Palestinians to remain in the country and have more rights than they would anywhere else in the middle east. They Palestinians have made themselves displaced for religious argument.
The Palestinians that chose to flee the country were not accepted by any other Arab states, they prefer instead to use them as propaganda against Israel.
The US backs them because they are a democratic society and therefore a great ally. The Israelis are constantly fighting with extremists who wish to see them destroyed. These extremists intentionally target civilians, and Israel has every right to protect itself from these militants.
The land after WWI was largely empty except for some stateless Jews and Arabs. in 1917 Britain took control of the region and gave it to the founding of Israel in 1948. The land did not belong to any one nation. The name Palestine was not the name of a country, simply a vast area amongst Arab states. When Israel was established they did not seek to force out any Arabs, to the contrary they are allowed to practice their religion, vote and even serve in the government. They have more political and economic freedoms there than they do in most Arab nations.

Because it's all over land...their neighbors will not leave them alone, they want Isreal because it is considered the Holiest Land in the World...everyone needs to leave Isreal alone...the Bible says that Isreal is "God's chosen people."

The question should be: Why are Israel's neighbors always trying to wipe them off the face of the earth?
