A spider web, is a web, that presently has a spider occupying it. They are the ones you'll see typically in gardens and outdoors.
Cobwebs are the webs that have been abandoned by the spider that made them. Many reasons will cause the spider to abandon a web, poor hunting, poor lighting, constsant disturbance, and several other reasons. These abandoned spider webs will remain sticky for sometime after the spider decides to depart, this means that they act as a magnet for dust and any little particles inthe air.
I hope that answers your question! Good one!

the difference between a spiderweb and a cobweb are the different types of spider that create it. however, the kinds of spider that make cobwebs move out of their webs more often than the spiders that make the iconic orb shaped "spider webs". which is why a lot of people assume cobwebs are unoccupied.

Actually the difference is a spider web is web spun to house the spider, and catch it's prey.
A cob web is after the spider has left or is dead, it is a vacant spider web.
Spiders are meticulous and repair theri webs on a daily basis, so if it is a hanging broken web, it is a cobweb.

Well, I was going to say, just the terminology. They are both webs made by spiders, but it looks like I got here too late. Anyway, that's the truth and I am with Gracie, I hate spiders and their nasty old webs.

I believe with certainty that a cobweb is formed by accumulation of dust and not with spiders otherwise it's a spiderweb.
I once saw dust form in a true web-shape.
