A very interesting and insightful question...
I will share some basic teachings in buddhism...Hope you will like it..
It is because this is a part of the law that penetrates the life of the universe. In Buddhism,we have the concept called " The four sufferings." This is the Life's suffering of BIRTH, OLD AGE, SICKNESS and DEATH. Universe itself is a living entity. We human beings are life from an ocean of life--the universe.
No one can escape from this reality. Even universe experiences this. Through this concept... Life is eternal.. Life starts...continue to live...starts to decline and will eventually will become latent. Buddhism teaches that we, human beings also repeat "birth and death" over and over through the existences of past, present and future.
It can also be applied to trees. Autumn leaves turn red during the autumn season, but trees shed their leaves on the ground before long and the leaves eventually return to the earth. And when spring comes, trees come to have leaflets again. Everything in the universe grows, declines and eventually dies. "Eternally unchanging entity of life" means that life has both sides of birth and death.
* The four sufferings of birth, old age, sickness and death is not really sufferings but part of our happiness in life.

Tnx...(,")

People used to live for about 900 years.. read the bible... then after God flooded the world, he decided that 900 years was too long for the human race to live.. it caused more problems and over population, so he allowed us 120 as a maximum.. and some people get there..

In theory, yes, you could live without sickness if you could live extremely sheltered. But don't forget a lot of sicknesses, like the childhood deseases, have the function to strengthen our body.
Living forever, no, that is a different mechanism, has to do with cell division.

I believe our immune systems have gone awry trying to fight off unnatural elements such as pesticides, molecularly altered junk in our food and who knows-maybe all of the fallout from nuclear testing which stays in the atmosphere and soil we grow our food in before it's half life is reached. There are building materials and coal dust. Back in the 40's and 50's there was no organization like OSHA to protect workers from occupational hazards. These persons are now becoming ill. No telling what other factors our government imposes upon us like they have done in the past with war chemicals. Their are so many answers. Genetic predisposition is another factor. It will only get worse as the baby-boom population emerges now.

No one lives forever. Anyway, the human body is a living organism & subjected to outside pathogens which attack the
body, thereby destroying it. The human body breaksdown & decays naturally. All life does.

We are a symbiotic parasite on an organism (Earth). Being the top of the food chain, we need to be kept in check. With very little predation from nature, disease and old age are the only things trying (TRYING) to keep us under control. as we find new cures, newer, stronger diseases come about. Kind of like the diseases we fight are the cures created for us. Crazy ain't it?

Scientifically after certain age the body can not resist the invasion of microorganism which cause the diseases. secondly the cells gradually stop regenerating. The organs loose their efficiency. All these reasons cause a person sick.

because our genetics are set up for us to be able to reproduce and pass on our genes, and keep us repaired ENOUGH to do this. OUr bodies do NOT use all their resources in order to fix every problem we come against... but a balance has been created to keeo us healthy enough to produce and rear offspring. If our bodies used ALL it sresources to keep us healthy, we would have none left for child bearing. and if this was the case, we would be genetic failures.
