Yes, it would be uncivilized to let someone live who murdered an innocent person.

Depends on whether you are one of innocent people that have been exonerated from death row due to DNA clearing them. Every educated person is well aware that mistakes can happen, and do happen. For the death penalty to work , it must be infallable. An innocent person should never be executed and the numbers of people released from death row the past 10 years or so due to advances in DNA for example, show that the death penalty is not.Take a good ,long look into yourself and ask yourself, What if it were me? Overzealous prosecuters, dirty police, manufactured evidence, mistakes by coroners, incompetent lawyers, not to mention, upcoming elections for D.A.'s, Judges, etc. I believe the death penalty is wrong because of those reasons. Is it necessary? It is ironic to hear some of the arguments especially when they throw the Bible into the equation. 10 major rules(commandments) with thou shalt not kill as a biggie. For a Nation that purports to be a Nation under God, with a leader that spews out scripture as a rationale, and a population that calls itself "Christian", how can you possibly condone the death penalty. If the God that keeps getting quoted every time an American pledges allegiance or testifies in a courtroom, how can you continue to ignore His rules? Doesn't this make you no better than the person you want to execute. Your founding fathers must be rolling over in their graves. There must be a better way to deal with those that you are now putting to death. Rest easy America, all the checks and balances that are in place to protect against an innocent person being executed are there for you. Especially if you are poor, a minority, or live in Texas.Right?

For some people, the death penalty is too lenient. It ends the suffering of the criminal when they should be made to suffer as much as their victims.
And I don't mean 'suffering' in prison where they'd be fed, clothed, and housed at taxpayers expense, but something a bit more creative and in line with their crime.
This type of justice might also provide potential criminals with stronger incentive to not commit capital crimes in the first place. For some folks, the thought of being put to death is not as scary as some other form of punishment.
Doesn't matter if the criminal had a bad childhood, what matters is what are they capable of doing today.

- It's morally questionable. Once a killer is caught, he is no longer a threat. It also removes any possibility of redemption: It is morally repugnant to execute a man who has regretted his crime.
- It's irreversible. Once you kill a convict, you can't bring him back.
- It's pointless. The death penalty doesn't reduce crime in any way. Yes, this killer won't kill again. But you don't have to kill him to accomplish that, just don't let him out.
- It's expensive. All death sentences are automatically appealed. You wind up spending more money in courts than it would cost just to lock him up.
The only REAL argument I hear in favor of the death penalty is, think of the victim's family. Yes, they're in agony, and they sometimes want to see blood. But is that the kind of court we want?
Life without parole (i.e. they stay locked up, even if they had a rough childhood and regret their wicked ways) is a fair punishment.

assigning death sentence to people is justified in some case BUT NOT ALL!!!!!!!!!!
some people have the conception that they have the right to kill any number of people and maximum the government can punish them is by a death sentence so they can kill whome ever they want giving death sentences to such people is RIGHT
but some people are tortured in their lifes so such extend that their life becomes a hell on earth
i then these people go ahead and kill the cause of their suffering
i think such people should be spared and the others should be GIVEN death sentence.

I do not agree with death sentence. It is morally wrong and of course, what are the chances that we convict an innocent man to die? Either way you look at it, it is not our right to kill for justice. It goes back to the primitive law of "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth!"

No, beside all discussions if it's morally or ethically right (which I also don't think), there's one drawback, which makes it simply unacceptable. There's always a chance to kill an innocent by mistake, judges and juries are just humans.
And you can never bring someone back to life.

I think itz rite. For those who dont. Try and explain it to the father of the 12 yr old who was raped, killed and thrown in a dumpster.
I say if you have enough evidence and if there is a confession then. Kill the sob.

tough question.... i think it's somewhat right depending on the circumstances, like if they killed alot of people and have a history of abusing, rape, or molesting then they will obviously do it again and there is no hope for rehabilitation. But if they just killed like one person then they shouldn't be put to death.

WITH 100% UNTAMPERED DNA PROOF. Yes, the death penalty is right.
Have you noticed the most crimes are committed by repeat offenders. Have you noticed the increase in crime is committed by illegal immigrants, with criminal records in there country.
How many billions of tax dollars are used to support incarceration and so-called rehabilitation???? etc.,etc...
