Each individual does decide what is important by paying attention to what is happening in his community and in the world or by ignoring it. Some individuals decide to do more than be informed and take some action to effect legislation and policy. Some individuals read news from various sources and in various languages. Other individuals never read. Some individuals focus on entertainment. Some newsmedia is more entertaining than informative.

In order for an individual to be discriminating about ANY information or propaganda, he must understand logic fallacies. Very, very few people in the US have learned logic. Therefore, whenever the person "decides" what is important, he will usually rely on another person's opinion whether it is the media, a friend, a teacher, pastor or whomever he thinks is well informed.

Media has played an important role in our life but it makes every small thing so hyper that every thing looks hostile. So many channels covering one news at a time and making it unnecessarily important which can pass in normal way.

I still remember a joke " media covering a earth quake and the reporter with mike holding in his hand is asking a person who is buried in the debries " sir how do you feel inside over there?
Gentleman replies that let me come out of this & then you feel it over here.

i don't say that media should not ot be allowed freedom but to an extend that only those topics should be highlighted where it's necessary & important to us.

I storngly feel that media should not lead us & touch only important topics of the life and not every dam thing which is not so important.

I think it would be great if we had some input. I'm not trying to minimize the crisis in the Middle East, but there are other things going on in the world that are largely, if not completely, being ignored. The Mumbai, India train bombings ... The genocide in the Darfur region of Sudan, Africa ... etc.

We are the people who need to decide what is important coz the media tend to exaggerate matters such that was is less important seems important and the good stuff are forgotten if they at all decide to mention them.

Yeah except we wouldn't know whats going on unless the media "decide" to cover it. They've got us addicted dude, and now they just keep suckering us into their views by reporting everything according to their agendas.
