We already can do that. It's been common practise in the laboratory for years to modify to genetic material in bacteria, yeast, flies and even mice to generate mutants. They are generally used as ways of understanding how various cellular processes work, how they go wrong in disease and how we can treat the disease.
It's been used in the past few years to modify plants to make them more resistant to disease/ drought/ pests (note GM crops).
There has also been a lot of media coverage of animal and human cloning, which also involves manipulation of genetic coding. The boundaries of what is possible are being pushed all the time and we are entering the realm "science fiction". The only limit currently is the ethical issue of how far we should go with it.

Completely possible and highly likely. They are already the option of "designer babies" and mothers at 60 having kids! Just because you can do it doesn't make it right. All this messing about with nature is a bit scary and I am not particularly religious but I think its morally wrong. Do you what really worries me? Kids been created in a lab with mutations such as thought control, fire breath, nuclear ray shooter hands and dry kinky hair. The thought of this batch of mutated babies accidentally escaping and growing up in the sewars. Getting stronger by living off of rats and being raised by Vincent out of Beauty and the Beast. Until eventually they are powerful enough to wage all out war on the Normie's(that's US). BUT............nobody notices cos it wasn't on the front page of The Sun. Don't kid yourself they ARE down there plotting and scheming! Be Alert and be brave!

Brush up on your info, the genetic code has been time-honored for countless organisms and viruses, some for decades. also, the H1N1 virus is actual cured with undemanding antibiotics, and turning out to be a vaccine only delivers yet another protection in the direction of it spreading. the position in any faith does one carry that God's creations won't be able to be examined, and the superb information revealed?

When you say mutants, do you mean like X-men mutants or people with 3 eyes and deformed ears mutants? It could happen. In the past year we've made amazing scientific and medical breakthrughs, so who knows?

To remove the genetic defect they will do. Gene therapy may include creation of mutation to set things right.Whether they will manipulate genes to the disadvantage of the race has to be seen carefully and resisted at all level.

man has been making mutants for years without altering thier genetic make-up,but with medecines used to treat ailments.Thalydamide for instance.

I think by then it will be the return of the King. Man is already overstepping boundaries he shouldn't and doesn't know anything about.

I reckon it won't be around for a few decades, but then it will be just like in Dark Angel.

They sort of already do with cloning. Since cloning is possible, I would imagine more is as well.
