By piece i assume you mean the Prior stick that was in there, and it would depend on what those sticks were. If you are upgrading and the two sticks are not compatible with each other then possibly not but if you are sure they are compatible then yes. If that makes any since.

Yes as long as it is the same type. Ram either works or it doesnt .
