There are a number of reasons. But I won't bore you with the details. Jump in the way back machine with me for a minute while we go back to 9/11/2001 when the news showed Palestinian kids (as well as other many other arabs, including Saudis) celebrating when the news of several thousand innocent people perished in an instant. The Israelis are fighting terrorism. There are a host of countries that harbor terrorists. (harbor means welcome, to you illiterates). I think we should support that effort. Hezbollahs are terrorists. Lebanon harbors them. Lebanon does nothing to stop them. Somebody has to, or terrorism continues. Israel did not start this.

Geo-politically, because Israel is a convenient way for the US to keep a strategic stronghold in the Middle-East, since Israel is in truth the only country friendly to the US in the region.
Concerning your own safety, If you do not want to have the government send tax dollars to support Israel, you should start preparing to see the scenes seen in Haifa today in Baltimore, New York and Chicago.

strategicly israel is in a good position to gather intelligence and maintain a ground presence for military operations.
The surrounding arab nations have been hostile to each other for centuries. When the jewish state was formed in the area in 1948 it united the arabs and allowed them to concentrate their hatred on one "tribe" the jews.
we will need a non-hostile base if a shooting war develops into a major war in the area. the money we spend is basically to have the military ready in case of war.
