No clocks are not the reason for time.Time may be the reason for clocks. Clocks were invented to keep track of time. There was no time before God. God was lonely so he created everything through Jesus. Thus God created time. Time equals distance times rate. I think that's the formula. If wrong let me know. There was no time.God always was and always will be. One day in our time is a thousand years to God as it states some place in the Bible.
So clocks were invented to keep track of time as stated before.
Don't forget God created everything in 6 days and on the 7 day he rested. So God came up with the concept of day. Check it out in the Bible.

Clocks were made by man to track the progress of time. The earliest man knew that certain things happened with the sun at certain times of the day.. and along came the invention of the sun dial, from there... they invented the clock, which mimics the shadow of the first man-made clock, the sundail.

They are both manmade concepts! Clocks are not the reason for time, they are simply a way of measuring it. It could be argued that time is the reason for clocks, since there is no point in clocks existing without a concept of time to measure!

An analogy to your question would be:
Are rulers the reason for distance?
From that we could see, distance is the reason for rulers and
time is the reason for clocks.
Clocks are machines we invented to measure passage of time.
In this context, time could be explained as the measurement of energy or of material passing across space -- hence the term space time continuum.

time was originally derived from the movement of the moon and earth around the sun. first days were noted and then years. the time we know as a day is the time taken for the moon to revolve around the earth and a year is the time for the earth to orbit the sun.
