The Israelis and most of our media are lying as usual.

But here's the truth people :)

"basically the current stage of what's going on -- there's a lot more -- begins with the Hamas election, back the end of January. Israel and the United States at once announced that they were going to punish the people of Palestine for voting the wrong way in a free election. And the punishment has been severe.

At the same time, it's partly in Gaza, and sort of hidden in a way, but even more extreme in the West Bank, where Olmert announced his annexation program, what’s euphemistically called “convergence” and described here often as a “withdrawal,” but in fact it’s a formalization of the program of annexing the valuable lands, most of the resources, including water, of the West Bank and cantonizing the rest and imprisoning it, since he also announced that Israel would take over the Jordan Valley. Well, that proceeds without extreme violence or nothing much said about it.

Gaza, itself, the latest phase, began on June 24. It was when Israel abducted two Gaza civilians, a doctor and his brother. We don't know their names. You don’t know the names of victims. They were taken to Israel, presumably, and nobody knows their fate. The next day, something happened, which we do know about, a lot. Militants in Gaza, probably Islamic Jihad, abducted an Israeli soldier across the border. That’s Corporal Gilad Shalit. And that's well known; first abduction is not. Then followed the escalation of Israeli attacks on Gaza, which I don’t have to repeat. It’s reported on adequately.

The next stage was Hezbollah's abduction of two Israeli soldiers, they say on the border. Their official reason for this is that they are aiming for prisoner release. There are a few, nobody knows how many. Officially, there are three Lebanese prisoners in Israel. There's allegedly a couple hundred people missing. Who knows where they are?

But the real reason, I think it's generally agreed by analysts, is that -- I’ll read from the Financial Times, which happens to be right in front of me. “The timing and scale of its attack suggest it was partly intended to reduce the pressure on Palestinians by forcing Israel to fight on two fronts simultaneously.” David Hearst, who knows this area well, describes it, I think this morning, as a display of solidarity with suffering people, the clinching impulse."

When the American people stop their government from sending a total of $90 Billion of their taxes to Israel to support their barbaric acts then the fighting will stop.

And also when the American people stop their governments from vetoing any chance of a peaceful settlement, then maybe there will be an agreement.
The American, and British role:-

Wow! There's just too much information here, what with the question AND the first answer! So I'll just stick with my original opinion - which means I agree with you totally on principle, but I'm not going to check out the authenticity of ALL those snippets!!

For all those 'Americans' who think Israel is in the right I have this to say - in your opinion, Lebanon was/is harbouring Hezbollah terrorists, giving them funds, some people were almost worshipping them! Lebanon also allowed the Hezbollah terrorists to plan attacks on Israel while they were in Lebanon. THAT is why you think it's acceptable to annihilate the Lebanese people.
...I'm British. Up until not so long ago, America was harbouring IRA terrorists, giving them funds, some people were almost worshipping them! Americans also allowed the IRA terrorists to plan attacks on Britain and Northern Ireland while they were in America.
So ... in YOUR opinion, Britain should have bombed America to rubble, killing any number of innocent civilians who couldn't get out of the way quickly enough! THAT is what you believe to be the 'just' thing to do to Lebanon - and the crime is the same ...!
Well, we (Britain) missed our chance, because we're not bloodthirsty, and we believe too much in the sanctity of life - something which the Israeli government and SOME Americans don't seem to respect!!!! Anyway, we missed our chance to bomb the hell out of America, but I'm wondering if we should do it now? It's a bit late of course, but in light of America's stance in this 'war against terror' I feel that we're OBLIGED to do it...!! What do YOU think????

After all, if it's 'righteous' to wipe out Lebanon for exactly the same crime, surely it's only logical to do the same to America...? Perhaps you pro-Israel Americans should actually 'think' about your reasoning before you scream about how 'unfair' my reply is, and how 'evil' Lebanese people are, and how 'misunderstood' YOU are...! BTW, I do NOT say that Britain SHOULD bomb America - I simply say that if it IS right for Israel to do it to Lebanon, then surely it WOULD be right for Britain to do it to America! I do NOT promote violence or genocide - unlike the Americans who support Israel!!!

Pro-Israeli people tend to have very samrt cut off times in mind when analysing Israeli actions.
In this recent fight. for them history starts from the morning that one "SOLDIER" was kidnapped from a battle field, they don't want to see anything one day before their holy cut off time, so they don't see the "civilians, women and children were kidnapped from their homes in the middle of night and being tortured and kept in Israel prison incommunicado for years.
I have to say that I'm against any type of extremists muslim or jewish, I've personally suffered from Muslim extremists, I'm for the separation of church and state that is also an American value. I'm for the idea of one democratic (not jewish, not muslim) country consisting of all those who have an origin in that land, but if Isreali immigrants think they are too good to be bothered by the presence of the original inhabitants of that land in their holy theocratic country and they want two states, a pure one for themselves and one for these second grade human beings, then fine, let's have two states, but two EQUAL states which means if you can kidnap my citizens and keep them in your prisons, I should be entitled to do the same to your citizens and imprison them and all the similar things that we do should have the same names by the way, if you can bomb my airport, I should be able to do the same to your airport without being called terrorist, if you can buy the most precise weapons from US, let me buy similar missiles and I promise in any possible future fights I won't use suicide bombing ever and just target your military very precisely just like a civilized state should do, this is the meaning of two states. But sadly Israel has problems with both the ideas of one or two states, they have problem with any permanent solution. their favorite solution is something uncertain that can give them the benefits of both. Israel wants two states so that they don't give Palestinians voting right, yet they want to give them an ever-shrinking set of scattered isolated islands without necessary elements of a real country.
Isreal strategy is to procrastinate until the weeker party just shrink either by death or by leaving their homeland.
By the way I'm not anti semitic, I've been arrested for defending minorities and jews in my country of origin, I just think that stronger party specially if it's a government and if it claims to be democratic, should do better than what Israel does.

I'm not going to give a long analysis for what is happening. Just to say that is hard for a murderer to admit his crimes. the easiest way for a killer is to justify his deeds by involving innocents and blaming his victims even though they are bleeding. This is what Israel and USA doing. It's a shame

little one,
Did'nt you know living human kind were great liars like you and me on planet earth?
So who should we blame for the human errors on what went wrong out there on planet earth.
Spreading ghost stories does not helps to solve the problems.
Why not try to trace how the faults was created in the first place instead of pointing at others.
