Think of Ale as Red Wine and Lager as White Wine
In other words, when red meat or any dish that you would normally pair with red wine is on the menu, select an ale to serve with it. Conversely, if the main course is fish or poultry, try a lager.

It depends on the actual foods, but basically red wine goes with "heavier" dishes such as red meat or chocolate. White wine with spicer dishes and fish or food that is "lighter" tasting.
Beer goes with pizza, hotwings, shellfish.

what ever you want, the whte /red goes with what has been more of an industry item to sell. Just like forks three are 3 of more different forks made by the industry just to sell more forks. they set the proper use code, ie salad fork, dinner fork, cocktail fork. The wines are the same. What ever you like is the best to go with what you are eating. Personal i like white wines better, fish , meat whatever. your indiivual tast is the best thing.
