The good thing about ram is that you can never have too much! It's affordable and comes in a variety of sizes! Just make sure that all the specs match existing ram or replace it all at once. More ram is always money well spent...
If you're a hard core gamer the more the better! Today's bleeding edge games will run with as little as 512mb but quickly bog down with lousy frame rates necessitating turning off the application's cool extra features...
Games like BF2, Doom 3, Stronghold 2 and FarCry run better with 2 gb of ram...
My state of the art system uses 4gb of ram, two videocards, Soundblaster X-fi, an fx-60 Athlon processor, 939 socket Asus SLI motherboard and is watercooled using a koolance system. It smokes every application it touches and has no lag watsoever. Even with all application settings on high I have huge framerates!
Download and run SiSoftware Sandra Lite 2007 to benchmark your computer and get helpful hints on how to improve your setup...

I think that 512 MB of RAM is optimal for XP Pro (they say 256 is minimum best) is enough for most general uses. If you are doing a lot of video or audio editing and/or have a bunch of windows or applications open at one time then 1 gig or more is better.

sure, improve to a minimum of 2Gb, the recent typical. circulate to the dell web site and to make certain what sort you elect. could be everywhere from $20-40. this might severely improve your computers overall performance. computers have become greater low priced, and you gets an honest twin center processor for $500 and a minimum of 2Gb's of ram and an exceedingly roomy 200Gb problematic stress. in case you elect to make that bounce. you probable won't have the ability to enhance the photographs card in that pc considering PCI convey did no longer relatively come on that many computers back then, so in case you improve your finished pc and then improve the photographs card for a some distance better pc than the only you have precise now.

Yeah, you need more RAM, unles the only thing you do is web surf or word processing. Windows is using the swap file, instead of system RAM, since you don't have enough RAM. Getting more RAM would definitely help you out, if you do anything besides word processing or Yahoo, that is.

I am a huge believer in RAM. Does your programs run slow or open slow? If not, then dont worry about it until they do. My machine has 1Gb of RAM and a 256mb video card, but im a gamer. You may not be, and just use the internet. Until your computer cant handle what you use it for, save your money.

i dont think u need to upgrade ur RAM... computer may slow down because if u upgrade ur RAM and use another chip for temporary memory.. file allocation from one RAM to another may take time.. so.. if u wanna upgrade ... pluck out 256 MB and put 512 MB in ur PC.. that would be a gud idea instead of addition of another... :)... rest.. ur PC is perfect...

If your system is working well with good speed then i think there is no need to add extra RAM. However to satisfy yourself you can add 256 mb also so it will be 512mb. But only in that case if your system is slow.

i can't believe you have a moderately high specifications in your pc and yet you only have a 256mb RAM?! come on, get a 512MB or 1024MB RAM, so that you can maximize the utilities you have in your computer system.
good luck!
