I bought a turtle a couple of years ago, he just pretty much sat around, did nothing, then I went to the pet store and bought another..wow..you wouldnt believe the difference it made, my 1st turtle was happy, swimming, playing with the other etc. it was the best thing I did for him..get another one

I think turtles may be one of the most "social" reptiles, but I'm not sure if they really need "friends." If you've got the space (you'd have to double the tank size), give it a try. Turtles can be pretty territorial, ESPECIALLY red eared sliders, I've heard of them doing a lot of damage to tank mates. If he seems bored, I'd first try giving him a larger tank, more stuff to interact with in the tank, or check his health, there's always a possibility that he seems "bored" because he's sick...

Turtles do fine alone.
If you do get another turtle, make sure the pond is large enough for the turtles to get away from each other when they want to.

it would be good to have another - although i have a friend that has had a turtle for years and it seems to be fine alone.
