Gas prices are ridiculous however considering inflation and the cost of living we have it rather easy at $3.00 a gallon. I would rather pay less but all in all we could be paying ALOT more...
Gas is expensive because of the way it is produced (drilled and extracted), supplied (pipelines, freighters)shipped, refined into no less than three grades, transported by $100K trucks and sold to franchises who want to make money...
Let's not forget our own government which taxes the heck out of it and thereby increases the expenditure of the producers and the automobile manufacturers. These guys must comply with emission regulations and pass off research costs to the consumer. Government regulators oversee the production and taxes the heck out of the consumer (sometimes as much as $.51 per gallon). Regulators are bureacrats that justify their exsistence by claiming to protect our interests AND subsequently pass this "protection" onto the consumer by taxing the gallon of gas...
A gallon of premium orange juice costs more than a gallon of gas these days! I paid $5.31 for a gallon of juice and about $.50 (less than the government's tax) to go the 5 miles to get it...
I'll pay it because I have to... Besides owning a horse and buggy costs more in the long run...

Gas hasn't kept up with inflation, because of politicians of the past. Look at it in reality. Rent and House payments were around $100 to $150 a month in the '60's even '70's, gas was from 29cents to 98 cents. Multiply rent and house pmts now, times 8, that would be $800 for rent, $1500 a month for a house pmt. About right. Gas should be 8 times too, 8 times say $.49 is $4.50 or so. Quit bitching. We had it made for years, now it's payback time. Ron

UK petrol (gas) varies near me it is already £1.03 per litre makes it $8.65 a gallon and still rising.
It's gone up £0.04 per litre this week alone.
Just got to get reliable, efficient alternative fuel cars at reasonable prices as soon as possible. we need to stop buying new petrol engine cars on a world wide basis and force a change in company policies.

peak oil is upon us. It will continue to get more and more expensive to remove the oil from the ground. Did you know that gasoline has a 23% loss factor? That means that is takes over a gallon of gas to create a gallon of gas. Fuel cells will be the norm very soon i hope.

Here in Holland Michigan USA the price WAS $3.15 NOW it is down to $3.05. Before that is was at $2.99.
I just can't figure out WHY it fluctuates so much in just a DAY or 2????
My husband has been driving truck the past few days & he has seen the same thing. $3.15, then $3.08 then back up as he drives through bigger cities!
Just doesn't make much sense. They get their gas from the SAME PLACE, YET they all have different prices!!!
We can't make ends meet as it is. NOW we have to watch where and how far we drive!!!

There are no solutions. Gas is something that everybody needs so the price fluctuation is of no importance to your average oil company.
You and everyone else will continue to pay whatever they charge because you have to get to where you are going.

In England petrol (gas) is now at 97pence per litre, that works out roughly at £5 per gallon which in turn equates to $9.27 at todays exchange rate. You think you have it bad?

here in south africa we are gonna pay R7.32 per litre before the end of the month... a dollar costs R6.95 so its pretty rough here as well... i dont know what can be done to reduce the price of gas but something has to be done drastically.

I'm in the Netherlands, we already are paying close to $5.
As long as the oil companies arer still making their biggest profits ever we don't have a hope of the US government doing anything about it.
