If you enter ctrl-alt-del, you will get the task manager, where you may stop the ongoing prosesses and software. Also delete programs listed in your startup. There is a software called Advanced System Optimizer that would do all of this automatically for you. Good luck!

Got to start - Run- type in "msconfig" no quotes.
Uncheck the programs you do not want at startup.
Reboot.
Ignore message and check 'do not show this message'
Please research your start up programs before you do this so as to not uncheck necessary boot programs.

Use a free start up manager like Autoruns to control what applications and services run when windows boots
- http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/AutoRuns/autoruns.html
it gives you much more control and flexibility than msconfig
