Here's the scenario: One man (or woman) and one adult North American bald eagle enter a large sports stadium. They must fight to the death. There is a time limit of 24 hours, after which if there is no winner both will be destroyed (like in the crazy Japanese movie with the schoolchildren), so there is no possibility of a draw. The human has no weapons and cannot make weapons MacGyver-style with things he finds in the stadium. Would the relentless talons of the eagle be too much for any mortal? Or do you think there is some martial arts master or highly trained commando with the reflexes, strength, and skill to finally establish our species' dominance over eaglekind?

Ok, everybody seems to think that they could take an eagle, based on the fact that an adult only weighs about 12 pounds. BUT, lets not forget that eagles can dive at speeds of up to 200 miles per hour. Its hard enough to barehand a baseball traveling at 60-70 miles per hour, imagine trying to barehand a squawking, 7 foot wide mass of feathers and razor sharp talons at 200 mph. I think you are underestimating the difficulty.
In regards to making the eagle attack, the rules would have somehow been explained to it previously in Eagle Squawking Language.

Well you make a very good point and a good case for the eagle, adn you know I think it may be mcch more difficult than most people think. I was working at a raptor rehab center when I was a little younger and I actually witnessed an eagle, with both feet crush a grown man's arm, it broke both the ulna and the radius on his right arm, in one grasp. They are very powerful animals, they can fly away with a young deer if they could catch it....pretty spectacular.
I do think though that anyone with martial arts training could give it one really good punch in the head or the sternum and do plenty of damage to the bird. Bird bones are very brittle and arent meant to be hit with that kind of force. If Jet Li were to really nail the bird in the sternum, it would probably result in the ribs puncturing the lungs or heart.......I would have to give it to the human if the person was trained to fight and had the almost supernatural reflexes that Jet Li has.
Now, if it was some lazy redneck from the local truck stop then I would lean toward the bird, it would probably grab him by the collar bone and bleed him out that way.......just my opinion of course, bacuae the man would come out swinging randomly and get caught.
I hope that answers your question.....I tried to back it up with reasoning...hahaha
Oh and if your looking for a way to get the eagle to attack the man, just tape some trout to his shirt, and watch the feathers fly! hahahaha

Silly question, but most any person could overpower an Eagle. They may have talons but they only weigh about 20 ponds, if you got ahold of an Eagle you could easily break it's wings and it's neck. Of course you would go to jail because killing an Eagle is a federal offense but that's another question.

The human outweighs the eagle by at least 20 times. Bird bones are hollow and therefore fragile. Grab a wing and snap it. Then do the same to its neck.

Bald eagles cannot stoop at 200 mph, that is an estimate for a perigrine falcon

Despite what you think it'd be fairly easy for a man to take down an eagle with or without weapons.

All you would have to do is grab one of the feat and bash it on the ground. It would get hurt pretty easily. They have hollow bones.
The trick would be getting an eagle to attack the man.

i reckon i could do it. just go for its neck when it swoops. sure, you'd get cut up a bit by the talons, but once you have a grip on the neck, it's just a twist or a firm squeeze separating you from victory
