It all depends for what purpose you approach them, but respect is something that they usually deserve - they devote their lives to teaching, to giving away their knowledge to others.

Really, it depends on the particular teacher's personality. However, all teachers will respond well to respectful students. I always watched a teacher interact with others for a few days to get a feel for their personality. Be a respectable you, sarcasm and arrogance will get you nowhere fast.
