Calling all mechanics!!?

Question

Apparently my car needs new bush or brush ends!! What are they? Is it a big job and will it cost me an arm & a leg?

Now that all the guys have had their fun let's try to answer your question.

Bushings are used in several places on the suspension of your car. They are usually in pairs depending upon the cars. If the mechanic that you spoke to said something like " your upper "A" frame bushings are worn and need replacement" then there would be two on each side of your cars front suspension. The cost per side would be about $30.00 for the bushings themselves and about $125 labor per side to replace them. If your car is front wheel drive labor will be higher.

Once they are replaced you will need an alignment so the tires do not wear out prematurly.

There is another part in the suspension that the mechanic could be talking about and they are called "tie rod ends". Costs on these parts vary greatly depending upon the type of car. So does the labor.

It would have helped if we knew the make model and year of your car.

Brushes or brush ends are usually reffering to parts on your generator or alternator. They are little metal pieces with a braided wire coming off of them that sit on the inside of the casing and rub the elements in the generator or alternator as it rotates. You have to change them once in awhile. I'm guessing you have a fairly old car.

What they will do:

1) Remove the part.
2) Open the casing.
3) Replace the brushes (should be about 4 of them, and that process should take all of about 30 minutes)
4) Put the casing back together.
5) Put the part back on.

It shouldn't be that expensive, unless they did alot of other stuff too.

Well the bush is a cyclinderical object which doesnt cost over 300$ , i would rather say it wont cost you a arm or leg may be a good lay with the mechanic will doo though.

rebuilt alternator or starter. brush ends are in side the starter that goes around a magnet. Usually these days you just replace the alternator. As a mechanic,I test the charging system with a meter and if it shows a no charge condition,I tell the customer the alternator is bad and needs a new one.

I had a fiesta and that needed the bushes changed on it - it's part of the track rod. It's not too expensive, a friend with a bit of mechanical knowledge could do it for you, garages are far too dear with their labour fees.

i think they are on the track rod keeps the wheels balanced not a big job depends who is doing it find a road side mechanic someone that works on cars in the street a garage will charge a lot and find something else wrong to knock the bill up

Ok here we go how told you this a mechanic or just some grease monkey iam sure if they know whats wrong with your car i am sure they can tell you how much it would cost to repair.

em,, you,ve got me there,
a bush is a piece of rubber that goes between 2 metal parts to stop them rubbing,
a brush end makes no sense to me at all, maybe its your big ends that are on there way out, in which case, i'm afraid ,your engine is pretty much knackered.

if its bushes you need, the most common on the fiesta are the front wishbone, rear bushes.
both side done should be under 100 quid if thats what it is.
