My Dell Inspiron 5000 restarts itself during the blue Dell boot up screen. It switches itself off and starts up again in a repeating cycle.

No hardware/software has been added to the laptop prior to this problem.

I have also tried starting it without the battery (just in case) but the problem still happens.

Anybody had similar problems, any solutions?

Sounds like a faulty power supply. I would call Dell if its under warranty and have it replaced. By the way, i work for Dell as a tech and i've seen this many times.

I had a similar problem. One or more of windows system files had become corrupted: the only option was to use the restore cd and reformat.

You could try pressing the pause break key and entering the boot menu

Start comp in safe mode and it should work fine ,,, or if ur system is Windows XP , then boot from safe mode and restore it earlier location by using system tools option to earlier location and it will work finee....
