Its been snowing here as its winter in Australia, so I was just wondering does it snow out to see or just over landmass?

Yes.

It would mostly happnen when air masses meet and one gets forced up, cooling it off and causing rain or (below 0C) snow. That occurs on land too - air masses meeting. But the air getting pushed up over a mountain range obviously doesn't happen at sea except very close to shore.

tempreature decrease when you gain altitude but also when you gain latitude, so if you are closed to the poles the coler you will be. It is true that the whater modifay the avrege tempreature, but if you are close enught to poles in winter, it can be very cold. Snow is seen when the tempreature is below or close to 0 celsius, so if this condition are satisfy if is raining is snow. It is also posibel that the whater will fraows. so snow can be acumulated the same as on land, if the whater is not frosed then the snow will melt when they hit the water.
but there are some places when is never enough colt for snow. If you are far from pols at ecuators.
But ther is a moutain at ecuator The KILIMANGEARO that is over 4000 m so at the tope there is everlasting snow, even at the ecuator.

if you ever watch "the deadliest catch" on the discovery channel it show the crabbers in the bearing sea and it snows on them all the time

yes it does or how else would we get ice! the snow cools the water and then ice begins if cold enough.
