like, everyone loves joel madden (lead singer in good charlotte) but when i saw something about benji madden (lead guitarist in the same band) they question me. or how every one knows pierre bouvier (lead singer of simple plan) but when i say i like david desrosiers (bass guitarist in the same band) they ask me who he is.

benji and jole may be twins but their not identical. benji is a little bit more "plumper" looking then jole. i would choose benji over joel any day.

With Benji and Joel, that really doesn't make much sense since they're twins! Also, incredibly nice and goofy as all hell (I used to work with one of their friends so I've heard ALL the stories).
For the most part, the lead singer is the one in front making the biggest fool of themselves for the whole world to see. People tend to remember things like that!

The media focuses all of it's attention on the lead singer, for the most part. Flip through any music magazine and you will see the lead singer in the foreground with the rest of the group in the background (not always, but it's rather common).
The paparazzi know the face of the lead singer more often than the other band members, and hound the singer in an effort to "get to know the band"; when in actuality they just call more attention to the lead.
Some times the lead singer is the writer of the lyrics (and/or music) and the media seem to think they are the inspiration of the band. Interviews revolve around emotional issues, or the childhood of the singer... and then these interviews are taken out of context to make the person seem more fragile, or strong (depending on the individual). Thus creating more attention.
Bands have broken up because of this issue.
The video for "Don't Speak" by No Doubt displays this subject quite well.

Because lead singers give the false impression that they are leading the band, when in actuality they are just providing the voice. If you take out the lead singer, the band can still make music, but if you take out any element of the band, guitarist, bass guitarist (and especially) the drummer--the band loses its sound.
I think it's more of a mental thing than anything else.

That's not true!!! It's true lead singers and cool and often the best looking band member, but I respect ALL the band members. Since I play the drums and am fascinated with bass, I usually look out for the drummer and bassist. And hey, some of them are really hot!
Just check out Tre Cool and Rob Bourdon and you'll get what I mean ;)

it's because he/she is a front viewer.. people should notice that it's like a leader of the band.and the cameras will be focusing on the vocalist like a super star.
