Go over his head...or document your ideas...and quit feeding your ideas to him. You are almost better off to write your ideas down until a better opportunity presents itself to you...but at least you will have a record of it; if it should become a more important factor further down the road. The main thing is to create a written trail that can be traced back to you.

Submit your idea to your colleague via email with a copy going to a couple others in positions to act on your great suggestion. Make it count. A really BIG idea when you do that because stepping on toes like that might end up causing a problem for you. Just make certain others are aware of your ideas.

Send your ideas in writing to your boss and accidentally bcc it to their supervisor
